Fundraising

Contrary to popular belief, our Scout Group, just like all Scout Groups, is a charity. We receive no funding from the Scout Association for the work we do, nor do our leaders or helpers get paid for their time. Our leaders and helpers provide their service to the group in their spare time. They receive nothing in return, aside from the satisfaction of seeing the young people within our community grow into successful balanced individuals. What is maybe not appreciated is that a lot of the fundraising efforts falls upon the leaders’ shoulders, on top of the planning and running of the weekly meetings and activities for the sessions.

The cost of running a Scout group is often much higher than people realise, just like any other Scout Group, a proportion of the subscriptions are sent to the District (High Wycombe), County (Buckinghamshire) and national Scout Headquarters. Therefore the remaining balance is then used towards the costs and materials for our activities, insurance, rates and maintenance on the scout hut and grounds, heating and electricity, tents and other camping equipment……. the list is endless.

We do not receive any other grants or help from local businesses. Therefore from time to time we may need to raise money for specific items.

Raising money for activities

When we need to raise money for specific items, we try to fundraise involving the young members themselves and parents. We have held sponsored events, family barbecues and quiz nights.

We have signed up to Gift Aid, so if you are a UK taxpayer please complete the Gift Aid form and return it to your section leader.

If you have any fundraising ideas or are willing to lead on a fundraising activity, please speak to a section leader, we are always open to new ideas and help.

Donations

We will gracefully accept any donations and may identify items that we need in the ‘giving tree’ section of our newsletters. We recently were gifted:

  • 2 x very large tents
  • A box of books (always useful on camps for those ‘quieter’ times)
  • A box of Lego (great for construction and you are never too old for Lego!)
  • Craft materials (we do love a bit of glue, paint and glitter!)
  • 40 High visibility vest (perfect for night hikes!)

If you are having a clear out, please speak with a section leader to see if there are any items that we may be looking for!

Sponsorship

Do you own your own company, and willing to sponsor us? We are waiting to hear from you. Please get in touch.
